Your Journey to
AHPRA Registration
The Outcome-Based Assessment (OBA) Pathway is the registration process for internationally qualified nurses and midwives (IQNMs) who wish to work in Australia.
Comprehensive support from AHPRA application to registration.
Your OBA Pathway
Who Needs the OBA Pathway?
You will be directed to the OBA pathway if AHPRA determines that your nursing education is not substantially equivalent to Australian standards, or you are an IQNM (Internationally Qualified Nurse or Midwife) applying for RN or EN registration in Australia.
Stream B usually leads to the OBA pathway. This applies to nurses from many countries including India, Nepal, Philippines, and more.
6 Steps to AHPRA Registration
Follow these essential steps to begin your nursing career in Australia.
1. Self-Check
AHPRA IQNM Portal
Begin by completing the online Self-Check on the AHPRA website. You will be assigned to Stream A, B, or C, depending on your qualifications.
2. Qualification Verification
EPIC / CGFNS
AHPRA requires verification of your nursing qualifications through CGFNS/EPIC. This step validates your identity, transcripts, and professional background.
3. Orientation Part 1 & 2
Online Learning
Complete two online orientation programs regarding the Australian health system and safety frameworks. Must be completed before assessment.
4. NCLEX-RN
Knowledge Assessment
Computer-based theoretical exam conducted globally through Pearson VUE. Tests nursing knowledge and critical thinking. Required for RN registration.
5. OSCE
Clinical Assessment
Objective Structured Clinical Examination conducted in Adelaide. Assesses hands-on clinical skills in simulated nursing scenarios.
6. AHPRA Registration
Final Step
Once you pass exams and identity checks, AHPRA will grant you Nursing Registration. You can now start working as a Nurse in Australia!
